There’s No Plan B

You are the light of the world.  A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14

If you experienced Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, or youth retreats growing up, you know the song—sing along:

This little light of mine, Igonna let it shine!

Hide it under a bushel? No! Igonna let it shine!

More than a childrens Bible song that grew to take on folk-song status, the lyric reflects the words of Jesus Himself, when He declared to His followers, You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16).

Jesus says you are the light of the world because of your relationship with Him. The God who said, Let there be light! is the same God who made His light shine in your heartand who calls you to bear that light unto a dark world.

Youre Plan A. There is no Plan B.

We are meant to shine. Jesus didntake us to heaven immediately after saving us. Instead, He chose to give each of us a one-of-a-kind platform, placing us in unique settings and circumstances in which to shine.

How do you shine? You live in such a way as people see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

As you memorize this weeks verse, take an inventory of your platform. Where does He have you? With whom do you have influence?

 My prayer for this week:

Oh God, help me be a light to those near and far. Lead me into opportunities to serve, that my deeds will bless people in the name of Jesus. As I take an inventory, show me people who do not know you. Help me be your light before their eyes, that they will come to know you as their Heavenly Father.
